Overview

Space has been one of the biggest aspirations of humankind during the course of history. For this reason, the science of astronomy is one of the oldest science branches. Humankind has observed the space and has tried to place the motions of celestial objects into a mathematical model for centuries. The biggest step on this path has been achieved through the Keppler laws, by the German scientist Johannes Kepler put forward at the start of 17th century, which explain the motions of the planets around Sun. These laws, formed entirely on experimental data, have been theoretically shown to be an outcome of gravitational force later by English scientist Isaac Newton.

Human’s reaching space has only been possible with the technological advances taking place in 20th century. Just after 58 years Wright Brothers flew the first aircraft, Yuri Gagarin in 1961 earned the title of the first man reaching the space. Till then, humankind has reached Moon, has sent spacecraft to the other planets, and has established a space station at a low orbit around Earth.

These achievements are made possible by the emergence and progress of space engineering branch. The sending of any object to space involves very complicated processes. The propulsion of the spacecraft to enable its escape from Earth surface, the orbiting of the spacecraft to a desired orbit are included in these processes. Besides, the spacecraft sent to space should be designed in accordance with the extraordinary conditions of space. For example, a spacecraft should function at very high temperature differences at the dark and light sides of its orbit, under high radiation, and at pressure and temperature close to absolute zero.

Our purpose as Turkish Aeronautical Association is to provide human force to society educated in the best possible way in the field of space engineering. Progress in the field of Space Engineering will be decisive in the determination of Turkey’s strategic significance and the lessening of external dependence on these technological matters. Turkish Aeronautical Association Space Engineering Department has the purpose of becoming a leader department on Turkey’s path to future, which will see Turkey’s self development of satellites and launch of them with its own means.
